OptiSigns vs Yodeck vs easyCMS: 10 Screens Over Five Years

easyCMS publishes this article, and easyCMS is one of the three products in it, so read it with that in mind. Every Yodeck and OptiSigns figure below is a list price taken from that vendor’s own pricing page, checked September 2026, and reproduced in the currency it was published in. We do not convert currencies anywhere on this page.

The short version of the arithmetic: over five years, easyCMS is the cheapest of the three at ten screens and at twenty-five. Yodeck is the cheapest way to run one screen, because one screen is free on Yodeck forever. OptiSigns has a list of features easyCMS does not have at any price.

What follows is the working. Prices move, so treat every competitor number here as a snapshot and check it yourself before you sign anything.

Good to know Licences bought in the same order as an account are a third off, 66€ each instead of 99€, applied at checkout with no code to enter. Every easyCMS figure below uses that price, because it is what you pay when you buy the screens together: five screens 313€, ten on PRO 893€, twenty-five 1 883€. Added later they are 99€ each, so the same networks are 445€, 1 190€ and 2 675€ at list. That list price is the honest ceiling, and it is still below both subscriptions over five years.

The three products, side by side

Two of those rows do most of the work. The pricing model row explains every number below, and the storage row is the clearest place where the other two beat us.

How each one charges

Yodeck and OptiSigns charge per screen, per month. The number is small and the meter never stops. Ten screens on an $8 plan is $80 a month, $960 a year, $4,800 over five years, and it is still $80 a month in year six. Both have real free tiers at the bottom, and OptiSigns discounts annual billing while Yodeck charges the same rate whether you pay monthly or annually.

easyCMS charges once. The 49€ account includes one display licence and lets you manage up to 5 displays. Each extra licence is 66€ when it goes through checkout in the same order as the account, and 99€ if you add it later, one per screen, one time. Above 5 displays you need the PRO account at 299€, which raises the ceiling to 25 displays and adds proof-of-play reporting. Above 25 displays, or if you need white labelling and multiple users with roles, you are on Enterprise at 1,290€ per year, which is a subscription and we are not going to pretend otherwise.

That difference is the whole comparison. One model scales with screens and with time. The other scales with screens once, then stops.

Five-year cost: 1, 10 and 25 screens

Assumptions, stated plainly. Sixty months. Software only, because the display, the mount and the electrician cost the same whichever CMS you pick. For the euro comparison we use the two entry tiers each vendor publishes in euros, Yodeck Basic at 8€ per screen per month and OptiSigns Standard at 7.50€ per screen per month on annual billing, so nothing here is converted. easyCMS figures assume the account and the licences go through checkout in one order, at 66€ a licence rather than 99€, because that is what a buyer fitting out a network now actually pays. The list-price totals, for screens added later, are directly under the table.

The easyCMS column is PRO, which includes the first licence, plus one licence for each further screen at the same-order price: 299€ + (9 × 66€) = 893€ at ten screens, and 299€ + (24 × 66€) = 1,883€ at twenty-five. Paid once.

Read the five-year rows first, because the shape of the thing is in them. The easyCMS line stops the day the invoice is paid and the subscription lines do not. By year three, ten screens have cost 2,880€ on Yodeck Basic and 2,700€ on OptiSigns Standard against 893€ on easyCMS. By year five that is 4,800€ and 4,500€ against the same 893€, a difference of 3,907€ and 3,607€. At twenty-five screens the five-year difference is 10,117€ against Yodeck and 9,367€ against OptiSigns. Ten screens bought in one order pay for themselves in 11.2 months against Yodeck Basic and 11.9 against OptiSigns, twenty-five in 9.4 and 10.0, and every month after that the difference grows.

Now the honest half, which is what happens if the screens arrive one at a time. Licences added after the account are 99€ each, which puts ten screens at 1,190€ and twenty-five at 2,675€, and on those numbers easyCMS costs more in year one than either subscription: 230€ more than Yodeck and 290€ more than OptiSigns at ten screens, 275€ and 425€ more at twenty-five. If your budget horizon is twelve months and you are adding screens gradually, the subscriptions win and the rest of this article is irrelevant to you. Over five years the list-price totals are still ahead, by 3,610€ against Yodeck Basic and 3,310€ against OptiSigns Standard at ten screens, and 9,325€ and 8,575€ at twenty-five, but that is a five-year argument and not a twelve-month one.

One case does not fit that pattern. If you need white labelling on your own domain, or multiple users with roles and permissions, you need Enterprise even at twenty-five screens, and there the licence price depends on the platform. Android, LG webOS and Samsung Tizen displays are 49€ each, because those players carry a commercial licence we buy in. Windows and Linux displays carry no licence charge at all, because that player software is free. Assume twenty-five Android displays, the usual choice for retail and hospitality: 1,290€ plus 25 × 49€ is 2,515€ in year one, then 1,290€ a year, so 7,675€ over five years. Put the same twenty-five screens on Windows or Linux players and the licence line disappears: 1,290€ in year one and 6,450€ over five, which is the cheaper route if the hardware suits you. Both stay below either subscription at that count, but the margin narrows and it is a recurring bill rather than a purchase.

Watch out A five-year software comparison assumes the screens are still on the wall in five years. For a pop-up, an exhibition stand or a seasonal campaign, a monthly plan is simply the right answer, and a free tier is better still.

The published price ladder, in full

Both competitors publish more tiers than the entry one, and the tier you actually get quoted depends on which features you need. Here is the full ladder as published, in the currency it was published in, with the five-year cost for ten screens.

Prices as published, checked September 2026. Dollar and euro figures are reproduced, not converted. The easyCMS row is the price for one order, with the nine extra licences at 66 EUR. Added later they are 99 EUR each, so the same ten screens are 1,190 EUR at list.

The spread inside a single vendor is wider than the spread between vendors. OptiSigns Engage at $30 costs three times OptiSigns Standard at $10, and both are sold as digital signage software. Before you compare anything to easyCMS, find out which tier your requirements actually land on. A demo booked against the entry tier and a quote issued against the fourth tier is the most common way these comparisons go wrong.

At twenty-five screens the OptiSigns Enterprise tier becomes available at $45 or more per screen per month, which is $67,500 over five years for twenty-five screens. That tier buys things easyCMS does not sell, so it is not a like-for-like number, but it is worth knowing the ceiling exists.

Break-even, in months

Break-even is the only number that matters when you are choosing between a purchase and a rental. It is the one-time price divided by the monthly cost you would otherwise pay. Both sides of these divisions are in euros, using each vendor’s own published euro price, so nothing is converted.

Three things to take from that table.

The first screen pays for itself in about six months. 49€ against 8€ a month is not a difficult decision if the screen is permanent.

Each screen after the first takes eight to twelve months. A 66€ licence bought with the account, against 8€ a month, is 8.3 months. The same licence added later at 99€ is 12.4 months. Those are the two numbers to use when someone asks what adding a screen costs over time, and the first one is the reason to order the screens you already know about together.

Ten screens breaks even later than twenty-five. 11.2 months against 9.4. That looks wrong until you see why: the 299€ PRO fee is fixed, so it is spread over ten screens instead of twenty-five. Ten is the least efficient point on our own price list, and it is worth saying so on a page where ten screens is the headline. Bought at list instead, the same two figures are 14.9 and 13.4 months against Yodeck Basic.

If you have been quoted a mid tier rather than an entry tier, your monthly number is roughly 25 to 50 per cent higher within that vendor’s own ladder, and every break-even figure above shortens in proportion.

Where Yodeck wins

The free tier is genuinely free. One screen, forever, with unlimited storage. If you are running a single screen in a reception area, or testing whether anyone looks at the thing before you commit, Yodeck costs nothing and easyCMS costs 49€. We are not going to argue you into paying 49€ to save nothing.

One rate, monthly or annual. Yodeck’s published price is the same whether you pay monthly or annually, checked September 2026, so there is no annual commitment needed to reach the lowest number. Our own Android player is 499€, or you can bring your own device and run the free Windows player.

Unlimited storage. No quota to think about, ever. easyCMS gives you 1GB on the standard account and 5GB on PRO, and if your content is long-form video that is a real constraint rather than a theoretical one.

Simple to start. Sign up, add a screen, and there is nothing to purchase. That matters more than people admit when the person setting it up is not the person with the card.

Where OptiSigns wins

Three free screens. More generous than Yodeck at the bottom, with the OptiSigns logo shown on screen and community support only. For a small business testing three menu boards, that is a serious offer.

No marketplace here. easyCMS has no app or integration marketplace and no plans to pretend otherwise. Our widget set is the Xibo 4.5 set: images, video, text, clocks, weather, an iCal calendar, RSS, Mastodon, webpages and embedded HTML, PDF, DataSets, menu boards, dashboards such as Power BI as an add-on, stocks and currencies and HLS streams. It is a good set. It is not a marketplace, and if the project exists because of one specific integration, buy the platform that already has it.

A template library. Yodeck publishes a library of 800+ templates, checked September 2026, and it is the browsable gallery in this comparison. easyCMS has layout templates inside the editor, but no templates gallery to browse. If your team has no designer, that gap is felt on day one. If you want the first board designed with you rather than by you, an Expert Support Hour is 25€.

SSO. easyCMS does not offer SSO or SAML at any tier. Of the two competitors here, Yodeck publishes SAML SSO on its Enterprise tier, checked September 2026. If your IT policy requires SSO, this comparison ends here and easyCMS is not the answer.

Unlimited storage, again. Same point as Yodeck, same honest answer from us.

Where easyCMS wins

Not on features. The two paragraphs above are not a warm-up before a reveal. easyCMS has a narrower feature list than either competitor, and the argument for it is four things that have nothing to do with feature counts.

Cost over time. Everything above. Break-even lands between six and twelve months when the screens go through checkout in one order, and up to sixteen if you add them later, and after that the software line in your budget is zero. Over five years at ten screens the difference is roughly the price of three commercial displays. EU jurisdiction. The CMS is hosted by us in the European Union, at Hetzner in Falkenstein, Germany. Human support, included, with no gating. The assistant, the guides and the FAQ are free to everyone, and an Expert Support Hour is 25€ when you want a person on your own setup. Enterprise includes priority support. It is not gated per screen or per channel. If you want someone hands-on with a specific problem, the Expert Support Hour is 25€ and includes a written diagnosis and a fixed quote you approve before any further work, and it is refunded if the root cause turns out to be a bug in easyCMS. Hardware and the whole installation from one supplier. Displays, LED and LCD, the 499€ Android player, an HDMI cable at 29€ and a wireless keyboard at 39€, quoted with the licences on one VAT invoice. Schools, colleges and universities get 30% off the LCD display and Android player bundle, applied when we quote.

Good to know easyCMS is built on Xibo 4.5, an open-source engine under the AGPLv3. We say so on the pricing page and in the docs, because it is the honest answer to “what happens if you disappear”. Who should choose which

Choose Yodeck if you have one screen, or your content library is large enough that unlimited storage is the deciding factor, or you need SAML SSO, which Yodeck publishes on its Enterprise tier, checked September 2026, or the deployment is temporary.

Choose OptiSigns if you want three screens running free while you prove the idea internally, or unlimited storage from the entry paid tier matters more to you than the monthly bill.

Choose easyCMS if the screens are permanent, you have somewhere between two and twenty-five of them, your content is mostly images, video files and scheduled layouts rather than live third-party apps, you would rather buy than rent, and EU hosting with named human support matters to your organisation.

Choose none of the three if you are running a single screen for under a year. Use a free tier and spend the money on the display.

A practical route many people take: prove the concept on a free tier for a quarter, then move the permanent screens onto lifetime licences once you know the project is real. What none of these tables include

Software is the smallest line in a signage budget and the only one anyone compares.

Displays and mounts. Identical whichever CMS you choose, and normally your largest cost.

Players. On easyCMS, the Windows and Linux players are free software. Android, LG webOS Signage and Samsung Tizen use a commercial per-display player licence, which we supply. Consumer LG televisions are not webOS Signage models, which catches people out. See players.

Storage growth. This is the one that turns into money. A dozen 60-second Full HD videos will use half a 1GB allowance, and the library grows every campaign. Plan it before you buy, using storage quota and media uploads and our storage requirements guide.

Content time. Somebody makes the slides, updates the prices and checks it still plays. Over five years that usually exceeds every software figure in this article, on any of the three platforms.

FAQ

Is easyCMS cheaper than Yodeck? Not in month one, and not ever for a single screen if you use Yodeck’s free tier. At ten screens bought in one order, easyCMS costs more for the first eleven months and less after that. Add the screens later at 99€ a licence and it takes fifteen months. Over five years at ten screens the difference is 3,907€ bought in one order, or 3,610€ at list, against Yodeck Basic at 8€ per screen per month, checked September 2026.

Is there a free easyCMS plan or trial? No. There is no free plan and no free trial. The cheapest way in is the 49€ account, which includes one display licence. If free is what you need, Yodeck and OptiSigns both have genuine free tiers and we would rather point you at them than waste your time.

How much storage do I actually get? 1GB on the standard account, 5GB on PRO at 299€, 20GB on Enterprise. Both competitors advertise unlimited storage on their paid plans, and the OptiSigns free tier is capped at 1GB. This is the clearest single feature gap in the comparison, and if you plan to run a lot of video, price it before you decide.

Does easyCMS have SSO, an app marketplace or a template gallery? No, none of the three. It also has no native mobile app, no public developer API portal and no POS integrations. Enterprise adds multiple users with roles and permissions, but that is user management, not SSO.

Do you hold SOC 2 or ISO 27001? No. We hold no such certification and will not claim one. What is true: player traffic to the CMS runs over an encrypted connection, every display must be authorised in the CMS before it receives anything, players pull content and accept no inbound connections so no inbound port needs opening, and the hosting is in the EU. What happens above 25 screens? Enterprise at 1,290€ per year: 25 or more displays, full white label on your own domain, multiple users with roles and permissions, 20GB storage, priority support, and Android players at 299€. Licences depend on the platform. Android, LG webOS and Samsung Tizen displays are 49€ each, because those players carry a bought-in commercial licence. Windows and Linux displays carry no licence charge at all. Twenty-five Android displays are therefore 2,515€ in year one, twenty-five Windows or Linux displays are 1,290€, and on Android the annual fee covers itself on licence savings alone from twenty-six displays. It is the only recurring plan we sell.

Do I need proof-of-play reporting? If you sell advertising space, yes, and it comes with PRO and Enterprise only, not with the 49€ account. There is more in proof of play for digital signage.

The short version

Yodeck and OptiSigns are per-screen subscriptions with real free tiers, unlimited storage and broader feature lists. easyCMS is a one-time purchase with a storage quota, a narrower feature list, EU hosting and human support included at every tier. Nothing in that sentence is a criticism of anyone.

Pick on the shape of your deployment, not on a feature grid. Temporary or single-screen, rent it. Permanent, between two and twenty-five screens, mostly cached content, and a preference for owning rather than renting: buy it, and expect to be ahead somewhere between month six and month twelve if the screens go through checkout together, and by month sixteen at the latest if you add them one at a time.
