Display Monitoring
Monitor your easyCMS digital signage network, display status, last-seen check-ins, remote screenshots, offline alerts and proof-of-play reports.
Once screens are spread across sites, you need to know they are working without driving out to look. Everything here is done from the browser.
Read the Displays page
The Displays page is your dashboard. One row per screen. Four columns tell you almost everything:
| Column | What it means |
|---|---|
| Logged in | Is the player reaching easyCMS? A tick means yes. A cross means no, and that screen is the one to look at first. |
| Download status | Has it finished collecting what you sent? Cloud = queued. Cross = downloading now. Tick = up to date. |
| Last accessed | The exact time it last made contact. |
| Authorised | Whether the screen has been claimed and is allowed to play. |
Two of those work independently, and the combination confuses people. A screen can be logged in and still show yesterday’s content, because its downloads have not finished. That is not a fault. It is a screen mid-collection.
Read Last accessed first when something is wrong:
- Minutes ago — the player is alive, so the problem is your content or your schedule.
- Hours or days ago — power or network at the site.
- Weeks ago — see player licence problems.
On a bigger network, sort by status to bring the problems to the top, and put screens into display groups by site or floor so the list stays readable.
Check what a screen is actually showing
You do not need to be in the building.
- Find the screen on the Displays page.
- Open its row menu.
- Choose Request screenshot.
The image comes back within seconds and appears against that display. It is the quickest way to confirm new content went live, or to see what a colleague means by “the screen looks wrong”.
If screenshots only ever arrive at the next check-in, something is blocking the instant channel. See Collect Now Does Nothing and Changes Take Minutes.
Know when a screen goes quiet
Rather than watching the dashboard, let easyCMS email you when a screen stops checking in.
The threshold is one setting for the whole account, and it lives in an area your login does not open. Tell us two things and we will set it:
- Which email address should get the alerts.
- How long a screen may be silent first.
Watch out Keep that second number above your check-in interval. Set it lower and every screen alerts during a normal collection.
How often screens check in
Players contact easyCMS on a set interval. At each check-in they collect schedule changes, download new content and report their health.
Between check-ins they play from their own storage. So a screen that has been quiet for a few minutes is not broken, it is just between calls. Worry when it misses several in a row.
Prove what played
Playback reporting records what played, where and how many times. Useful for advertising, and for anyone who has to show a customer the screen ran.
Reports live under Reporting > All Reports, filter by display, layout or media, and export or arrive by email on a schedule. They come with the PRO and Enterprise accounts.
Watch out Turn it on before you need it. Statistics only count from the moment they are switched on, and nothing is recorded retrospectively. If a campaign needs proof of play, ask us to enable it before the campaign starts.
A five-minute weekly routine
- Open Displays and sort by Last accessed.
- Look at anything that has not checked in today.
- Request a screenshot from two or three screens at random.
- Check your storage if you have been uploading video.
