Display Monitoring
Monitor your easyCMS digital signage network, display status, last-seen check-ins, remote screenshots, offline alerts and proof-of-play reports.
Once screens are installed across sites, you need to know they are actually working without driving out to look at them. easyCMS gives you a live view of every display from the browser: connection status, what each player last reported, remote screenshots and playback reporting.
The Displays page
The Displays page is your network dashboard. Each row is one display, showing:
- Status: whether the display has checked in recently. A healthy player contacts the CMS at its configured interval; a display that has missed its expected check-ins is flagged so problem screens stand out at a glance.
- Last accessed: the exact date and time the player last contacted the CMS. This is the first thing to look at when investigating an issue: a last-seen time of three days ago points to power or network trouble at the site, while a recent timestamp means the player is alive and the problem lies elsewhere.
- Logged in / authorised: whether the display is authorised and currently communicating.
Sort or filter by status to triage a large network quickly, and use display groups (per site, per floor, per customer) so the list stays navigable as it grows.
How check-ins work
Players contact the CMS on a collect interval set in their display settings profile. At each check-in they fetch schedule changes, download new content and report their own health. A shorter interval means faster content updates and fresher status data at the cost of a little more traffic; for most networks a few minutes is a good balance. Between check-ins, players run entirely from their local cache, a quiet display is not necessarily a broken one until it misses several expected check-ins.
Remote screenshots
Wondering what a screen in another city is actually showing? From a display’s row menu, request a screenshot: at its next contact the player captures its output and uploads it to the CMS, where it appears against the display record. This is the fastest way to confirm that new content really went live, or to see with your own eyes what a “the screen looks wrong” report from a colleague is about. Players can also be configured (via the settings profile) to upload screenshots on a regular interval automatically.
Alerts and notifications
Rather than watching the dashboard, let the CMS watch it for you. easyCMS can flag a display as offline once it exceeds its expected check-in window and raise an email alert to nominated recipients, so you hear about a dead screen from the system before you hear about it from a customer. Configure alert recipients and thresholds to match how critical each display group is, a menu board over the till warrants a tighter threshold than a back-office noticeboard.
Playback reporting (proof of play)
For advertising networks and accountability, playback statistics record what actually played, where and how many times. Reports can be filtered by display, layout or media and exported for billing or campaign wrap-ups. Proof-of-play reporting is available on the higher easyCMS tiers, contact us if your use case needs it.
A simple monitoring routine
- Glance at the Displays page each morning, status colours make anomalies obvious.
- Investigate any display with a stale last-accessed time using the offline checklist.
- After publishing important content, spot-check one screen per site with a screenshot request.
- Let email alerts cover you the rest of the time.
