LG webOS Player Setup

LG’s commercial signage displays can run the easyCMS player on the panel itself, with no box to power or maintain. You need a commercial LG panel on your network, your CMS address and key from the welcome email, and a phone or computer on the same internet connection.

Studio’s Add a screen has no step-by-step for LG webOS (it says “Ask us and we will set it up with you”), so install the player with this guide, then connect the panel there. Other players explains when LG is the right choice.

Before you start

Watch out The player runs on LG’s commercial webOS signage line, not on consumer LG televisions. Support varies by webOS version and model series: if in doubt, contact us with your model number before buying.

• Firmware. LG publishes recommended firmware per model. Update to it first.
• Network and clock. Connect the display (wired Ethernet recommended) and set the correct time and timezone.
• CMS address and key. The address is https://app.myeasycms.com; both are in your welcome email.

Method 1: remote (network) install

1. Set all four fields, exactly as they are named on the panel:
   • Application Launch Mode: Local
   • Fully Qualified Domain Name: On
   • Application Type: IPK
   • Local Application Upgrade: REMOTE
2. Enter the package URL, copied from the webOS player’s Download button on the downloads page.
3. Confirm, and let the display fetch and install it.
4. Restart the monitor. The player launches by itself and shows its connect screen.

Method 2: USB install

1. Download the webOS player package (an .ipk file) on a computer.
2. Rename it to exactly com.lg.app.signage.ipk. LG’s loader will not detect it under any other name.
3. Copy it into an application folder in the root of a FAT32 USB stick.
4. Insert the stick, set the upgrade source to USB in Server Settings, and confirm the install.
5. Remove the stick and restart the display.

3. Connect it to easyCMS

1. On the connect screen, enter the CMS address, the full URL including https://.
2. Enter the CMS key and save. The panel registers itself and waits.
3. On a phone or computer on the same internet connection, open Add a screen in Studio or Add a display and connect the panel. Connecting your first display walks through it.

Two separate licences. Connecting the panel uses one of your display licences: on an LG screen, the 129€ licence for Samsung Tizen or LG webOS, not the one included with your account. The webOS player software also carries a commercial player licence, which comes with it and re-verifies about every 30 days. Running webOS panels

• Orientation, operating hours and check-in interval live on the settings profile your account shares, so we change them centrally. Tell us and it reaches every panel at once.
• Portrait screens: set the rotation and schedule portrait layouts designed at the matching resolution.
• On-site check: press the yellow button on the remote and choose Status from the Action bar. See reading the player status window.
• Firmware: keep it at the recommended version; many webOS quirks are fixed by an update.
• Heavy layouts: a panel’s processor is modest. Several videos at once may run better on an Android or Windows player over HDMI.
