easyCMS runs best on Android, with Windows as the common second choice. LG webOS panels are supported too, and here is where each one fits and what it costs you.
Around four screens in five run Android, and most of the rest run Windows. Those two guides cover almost everything, and if you have not chosen yet, Android is what we would put you on. This article is for the cases that fall outside those two.
LG webOS panels
LG’s commercial signage displays run webOS and can host the easyCMS player on the panel itself. No external box, no extra power supply, one less thing to fail, and it is the one alternative platform we actively support and sell licences for.
It suits you if you are buying new commercial LG panels anyway and want the tidiest possible installation. It suits you less if you want the cheapest route or the most headroom, because a panel’s processor is more modest than even an inexpensive Android box.
Two things to know before you commit to it:
- Commercial models only. The player does not run on consumer LG televisions, and support varies by webOS version and model series. Send us your model number before you buy.
- Heavy layouts struggle. Several videos at once, or a layout leaning on live web content, will run more smoothly on an Android player feeding the same screen over HDMI.

Bringing your own hardware
You do not have to buy players from us. Any Windows PC that meets the requirements will run the player. In an office with a spare machine, that is often the quickest way to get a screen live.
For Android, the picture is less forgiving than it looks. The player runs on ordinary Android devices, but a cheap tablet or unbranded TV stick usually disappoints. Not enough memory for a busy layout, no reliable way to keep it awake, and no route to update it centrally.
Tip If you are supplying your own Android hardware, tell us the model first. We will tell you honestly whether it will hold up.
Anything else
Other platforms exist in the wider signage world, Samsung Tizen panels and Linux boxes among them, and we are occasionally asked about them. We do not sell licences for them and they are not part of the standard setup, so there is no guide here and nothing on the downloads page.
That is not the same as “impossible”. If you already own that hardware and moving it would save you replacing it, tell us what you have with model numbers and screen counts. We will give you a straight answer rather than a sales one.
Choosing, in one paragraph
Buy an Android player unless something pushes you elsewhere. Choose Windows when the machine already exists or you need PowerPoint on screen. Choose LG webOS when you are buying commercial LG panels and want nothing hanging off the back of them. Everything else, ask first.
