Windows Player Says “Client Found Response Content Type”

You entered your CMS address and key in Player Options, clicked Connect, and instead of registering, the Status box reported Client found response content type of ‘text/plain;charset=UTF-8’, but expected ‘text/xml’, followed by The request failed with the error message: and a pair of dashes.

Qué significa

Your network and your key are fine. The player and the CMS are on different versions and cannot understand each other.

easyCMS runs on two platforms. Customers who signed up before the move are on easyCMS V3, at https://cms.myeasycms.com. Everyone since is on easyCMS V4, at https://app.myeasycms.com. The Windows player at the top of the downloads page is version 4, built for V4. Point it at V3 and V3 answers in plain text instead of the reply the player expects, which is exactly what the message says.

Check your CMS address

Read the CMS Address in Player Options. It should match your welcome email.

An address on V3 with the latest player is the whole problem. Keep the address and key as they are and change the player.

Install the Windows player for V3

1. Close Player Options and the player.
2. Uninstall the current player from Settings > Apps > Installed apps. Windows will not install an older version over a newer one.
3. Open the downloads page with the V3 player selected. On the Windows card the version beside Download should start with 3. If it does not, choose it from that menu.
4. Download, install, and open Player Options again.
5. Enter the same CMS Address and CMS Key, then click Connect.

The Status box should now report that the display is registered and waiting to be authorised. Add a display works on easyCMS V4 only, so for a V3 screen send us the display name and we will authorise it.

Good to know Version 3 is the previous major version of the player. It still receives security fixes, not new features. If you would rather run the latest player, ask us about moving your account to easyCMS V4.

Then the version is not the cause. Anything that answers in place of easyCMS produces the same message, most often a content filter or proxy on your network returning its own page. Load the CMS address in a browser on the same PC. If you get anything other than the easyCMS login page, hand Network Requirements and Firewall Rules to your IT team. If the login page loads, send us a support request with a photo of Player Options.
